Sketch Dump for January (some are kind of before actually) and March! But not February….I don’t know what I was doing in February but apparently not drawing any sketches of repute lol. March is all traditional, as I have been really digging my new sketchbook.
Tutorials
I have been considering making tutorials on things editing related, or art related I suppose but I don’t think I could teach that all that well. Is there anything anyone wants in particular to hear about? You can put it in my questions thing I suppose or on this post.
WIP…bleh idk if I am going to finish this. I am kind of bored of it…and I have issues with parts of it. But I am so close to being done I feel I should….

Behind the Video: This AMV is actually taken from an old beta I cooked up back when I was in Re-Evo. I had heard the song at my high school’s senior fashion show, which I was MCing for the year. The moment I heard it I pinned it directly to Sheryl. I began editing and quickly gave up the video, as I didn’t have enough footage. I still liked the idea.
Fast forward 3 years and I was going through my old beta folder. I stumbled across this beta and remembered all the awesome ideas I had for it. With the movies out, and the Nyankuri I figured I would have enough footage. I have been quite busy lately and only had a small window of time, so I decided this would be perfect for a simple, yet poignant video.
I have only made one other Sheryl AMV, which was only a minute long. People have been asking for a longer version of Stonger (said AMV) so I hope this satisfies them.
Editing was slow at first. Not having made anything serious for months, I found jumping back into editing very difficult. I had forgotten where like everything in Macross was, and for some reason this song was being really annoying and tricky to edit too. The parts I thought would be easiest became harder and harder and I was about ready to give up.
At this point I had about a minute twenty and showed it to my studiomate and good friend Stephen. Being well versed in all things Macross and Sheryl, he quickly pointed out what could be fixed and what I could add footage wise. Once I got the rundown from him, It was so much easier. I remembered how to edit, and where half of the footage in macross was. Things started to move quickly and I finished the final minute and a half in a weekend.
What I was trying to Convey
I hope it’s obvious but I wanted it to be a look into Sheryl’s psyche. I wanted to depict her desire to be remembered – even after she is gone. I wanted the video to be like meeting her in person…if that makes sense. The first verse is meant to be more superficial , what you see on the first glance. She is this strong, powerful singer, highly sexualized and super cool. The next verse is about her weakness for Alto, and the love she feels for him. Alone Sheryl is stong, but with him she can reach new heights. The bridge depicts her inner angst, what you would really only get to see if you really got to know Sheryl. And the end is how she overcomes this to be remembered for all time, no matter her fate.
About the Editing
I wanted to use simple effects and focus more of clip choice and lipsync. Because of the time constraints I had, I forgoed masking all together, because I am so nitpicking about that and it takes me forever lol. I used mainly Levels created flashes, pan/zooms and bounces.
Overall
I am happy how this came out. It looks a lot better than I expected. That being said I am not incredibly fond of the second verse. I was really struggling there with the editing, and I think it shows. I always say I suck at romance (in my videos and in my real life haha) but I am serious! Everytime it comes into one of my videos things just start to get weird and poorly edited. BUT other than that, I really like the rest of it. The second chorus on instills me with just an overall great and powerful feeling. I hope it does the same for you too!
